OPERA MOBILE & circus musicus
JANKO JEZOVŠEK - CONTEMPORARY COMPOSER
Janko Jezovšek
Born 28 February 1945 in Maribor, Slovenia.
In 1963 he began studying composition and conducting in Zagreb. In 1965 he went to Germany to study singing and electronic music in Frankfurt and Cologne.
Jezovšek (pronounced: Yezoushek) considers himself to be self-taught, although “officially” he did have a number of distinguished teachers. He works with his musical theatre OPERA MOBILE ® as a “Gastkünstler” (or “guest artist”) predominate also in other parts of Europe and in America.
He has initiated creative festivals in Germany (sang&klang, laboARTorium Bayreuth), Austria (Tyrolia, Styria) and Slovenia (SCHOLA CANTORUM).
He first attracted notice through his piano peaces, songs and choral works while a twelve-year-old musical novice in Maribor. He himself ranks his first short program-composition,
THE BROOK, as one of his best works.
The existence of the group - Ensemble for Contemporary Music - which he and the Croatian composer Silvio Foretiæ, formed in Zagreb in 1963 was denied or concealed by “...necrophiliac musicology”, Jezovšek says.
After 1965 this first Balkan Group for modern Music played a few “farewell” concerts.
Some of the titles of Jezovšek’s multimedia works point to the variety of musical forms he employs:

Janko Jezovšek is his own publisher - ROTE NOTE ®, arranger,
performer and patron. He prefers to work with and for automatic mechanical
music instruments - LOCHOMOTIVE ® and movie machines
(with Edo Lukman’s ANIMATED FILM WORKSHOP Èakovec), non musicians, actors, puppeteers, dancers and those who think they have no ear
for music - or who at least do not imagine themselves to be exeptionally musical.
His work could be classiefied as an artistic/teaching activity for all:
from electronical and mechanical multimedia workshop
international academies of childhood and creativity.
